Startup 101
(One-day workshop on campus)
Date: June 20th, 2002, 7:00 – 9:30pm at the Wentworth House
Purpose: The free workshops will give participants critical information to help them develop and refine their business plans, including free access to legal, accounting, marketing, patenting, financing and management experts; an opportunity to talk with colleagues and peers to facilitate the creation of teams. All with the goal of encouraging participants to submit their ideas to the business plan competition. Come and strengthen your venture opportunity.
Format: Open format with informal question and answer opportunities with experts in specific
topics.
The sessions are geared towards providing an overview of firm and team creation, effective business plan writing with particular emphasis applied to each subsection of the plan followed by a brief demonstration on how to use the Venngo software. The 2.5-hour workshop will consist of a series of expert guest speakers with legal, venture capital and entrepreneurial expertise. Each presentation will be 15-20 minutes followed by 10 minutes for questions and answers.
Guest Speaker: Shameze Rampertab of Canaccord Capital
Shameze is Canaccord’s biotech financial analyst and a 1992 MBA grad from
McMaster. He has an undergrad degree in molecular biology from the U of T and
also is a CA. He will provide an overview for the students and faculty on what
is happening in the biotech/healthcare field and the opportunities for new
start-ups in the area. He will then be there for the entire time to answer
questions and provide advice.
Canaccord is the largest independent investment bank in Canada. While the
company is not a VC, it works with a number of VCs and would be willing to help
students connect with sources of capital, if needed.
